 The West Texas Festival of the Celts  is pleased to announce it’s 5th Annual Highland Games Competition.­ The CeltFest 2008 Games are set for Saturday , October 4th, 2008,  at the Odessa College Campus, 201 West University, Odessa Texas. 

 There will be two classes this year. Open and Masters will compete on Saturday.

 There WILL be limits on the number of competitors, so register early. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place in each class except for Novice. Athlete of the day in the open class will also receive a trophy. NASGA/RMSA rules apply, these are amateur events and a standard waiver will be required before competing.­

Athletic Competition

 

Early registration is recommended due to a limit of 6-8 competitors in each class. Entries received after the April 11th deadline will be at the discretion of the AD. Competition begins at 11:00 am. Check in at scorer's table a 10:30 am on Saturday April 26. There is a $5.00 late fee for all entries received after the April 11th deadline.  It will be at the AD’s discretion to accept late entries.  Also it will be at the AD’s and Judges discretion to allow late show’s to compete. You must sign in before the competition begins.

 All athletes will be provided with a Gate Pass, water, sports drinks, seating and shade. As it will be a full day of competition it is a good idea to bring along extra food to get you through the day. All competitors will receive a T-shirt to be worn that day.

16# Open Stone, 22# hammer, 16# hammer, 28# and 56# WFD, 56# WFH, Caber to be determined by experience

Masters implements

16# Open Stone, 22# hammer, 16# hammer, 28# and 42# WFD, 42# WFH, Caber to be determined by experience

 If you expect to compete in the Men’s Open Class, check the Performance Standards below to see if you qualify. Athletes much have achieved five of these marks during the past twelve months. All five marks do not have to be attained in one game.

 The Caber will be contested at these games, but is not listed above because there are so many variables in determining it's relative value.

Scoring for the competition will be 1 point for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd and so on through 6 places. Athlete with the lowest score wins the event.

 Athletic Rules

1. All Class, A, B, Class C athletes, and that have competed before, MUST wear a kilt and kilt hose at all times when on the athletic field. A limited number of rental kilts are available. If these are all taken, competitors must make arrangements to borrow someone else's kilt, trading back and forth to make the throw's.

2. Decisions of the Judges and Athletic Director are final. NASGA/RMSA rules will be used for judging.

3. All athletes will receive one complimentary athletes T-shirt which MUST be worn while on the athletic field. Additional T-shirts may be ordered on the entry form.

4. Athletes will be expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner, maintaining a friendly and respectful attitude toward the public, officials and other competitors.
